JBLFMU-Arevalo, Inc. membership with CODEPP

The JBLFMU-Arevalo, Inc. recently attended the Seminar-workshop on Institutional Implementation of Open Distance eLearning. This was part of the "forged commitments on the continuous efforts to push forward distance education” in the country,  of the Consortium of Open and Distance Education Providers in the Philippines (CODEPP).  The Founding Members of this organization, of which the University is a member, are discussing the plans for CODEPP with a main focus on the outcome for the year 2023. This is for the Founding Members of CODEPP to be accredited and/or ready for accreditation by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Part also of the event is the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) Signing held between MMSU President, Dr. Shirley Castañeda Agrupis, and UP Open University (UPOU) Chancellor and CODEPP President, Dr. Melinda dela Peña Bandalaria.

The Consortium is composed of eight higher learning institutions that offer open distance education in the country. These universities are John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University - Arevalo, Inc, Benguet State University, Cavite State University, Central Luzon State University, DMMSU Edu Ph, Ifugao State University, Mariano Marcos State University, and UP Open University (UPOU).


The two-day Seminar-Workshop on Institutional Implementation of Open Distance eLearning held last 3-4 April 2023 at Mariano Marcos State University (MMSU), Batac City, Ilocos Norte was actively attended by the Dean of Graduate School, Dr. Geneva M. Eler, and the IT Learning Innovations and Technology Solutions section head, Dr. Maria Cristina P. Arante.

Last 20 of May 2015,PeLS and JBLFMU organized a Kapihan with a theme: Enhancing Capacities in the ASEAN, the Digital Way. The activity was held at JBLFMU Molo Campus, Iloilo and was attended by 74 participants from various institution in Western Visayas who also became new members of PeLS.

Dr. Ronald Raymund L. Sebastian, CEO of JBLFMU was in full support to this activity including their Online Distance Learning - Instructional Materials Designer, Prof. Cristin Arante, ODL Director – Dr. Benelyn Batiduan, and IT Director – Engr. Archie Amparo.

The Iloilo Kapihan one-day seminar workshop tackled various topics such as: The ASEAN Integration and a Glimpse of Where We Are by Robbie Macalde, eLearning Startups for K-12 by Leandre Dacanay, Do it Yourself (DIY) Learning to Collaborative Networking by Mavic Pineda and Hackathons, a Strategy to Develop Homegrown Digital Skills by Lawrence Joseph Libo-on. In the afternoon session, participants attended workshop on eLearning Startups, DIY Learning and Hackathons.

JBLFMU eLearning goes International

The JBLFMU Online Distance Learning, Instructional Material Designer – Maria Cristina P. Arante, has attended the 3rd International Conference on Research and Innovation in Information Systems held in University Tenaga Nasional, Malaysia last November 27-28, 2013.

The conference was attended by not less than 100 participants from ten different countries to showcase their innovation in relation to the conference theme “Social Informatics”. The objective of ICRIIS’13 is “to provide a platform for researchers, academicians, professionals, government and private sectors from all over the world to present their research results and innovation in the field of Information Systems (IS) and ICT.”

The paper entitled: Information and Communication Technology (ICT): The Role and its Impact to Maritime University’s Online Distance Education, showcased how the ICTs such as networked computers and the Internet have full potential to aid the development of JBLFMU’s Online Distance Learning; an educational innovation that makes interactive and collaborative learning possible university wide.

The presentation was a huge success - providing opportunity for the whole University a new bridge for recognition in IS innovation.

JBLFMU attends the Philippine eLearning Society 11th National Annual Conference

John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, Inc. had once again joined the Philippine eLearning Society 11th National Annual Conference. Ms. Maria Cristina Arante, the JBLFMU Distance Learning - Instructional Material Designer, together with Mr. Rex Flejoles, the JBLFMU-Molo IT-Program Head was the representative of the University. The conference was held Last December 7-8, 2012, in Bethel Guest House and Silliman University, Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental.

The annual conference’s theme - Intruction, Research & Extension of eLearning, “underscore the vast scope and applications of the innovative use of educational technologies in eLearning practice while assuring excellence in delivery and enhancing online learning experiences”.

The conference also featured several types of paper presentations that show eLearning practices among various industries and institutions. Among the selected papers presented in response to call for Paper presentation, was the paper entitled, Information and Communication Technology (ICT): the Role and its Impact to Maritime University’s Online Distance Education which was authored and presented by our very own Instructional Material Designer.

The paper presented via ePoster presentation discusses how information and communication technologies such as networked computers and the Internet have full potential to aid the development of JBLFMU’s Online Distance Learning; an educational innovation that makes interactive and collaborative learning possible university-wide.

This paper presentation had garnered 1st place in the Best in ePoster Presentation Award. The first time ever happened in the four years of active membership of JBLFMU in Philippine eLearning Society.

It has been a great success and honor in promoting our University’s endeavor in Distance Learning. Congratulations JBLFMU!!!

 

JBLFMU attends the Philippine eLearning Society 10th Annual Conference

JBLFMU Distance Education Director - Dr. Benelyn P. Batiduan, and JBLFMU Instructional Material Designer - Maria Cristina P. Arante, attended the 10th annual National eLearning Conference of the Philippine eLearning Society which was held last December 1-3, 2011 at A & A Plaza Hotel, Puerto Princesa, Palawan. The year's theme: Connecting Communities: The A B C D of eLearning (Access, Build, Connect, Deliver), enables several institutions, eLearning practioners, educators, trainors, researchers, media specialists, intructional designers, university school administrators, policy makers, industry partners and students across the country "to present and exchange new advances and research results in various aspects of eLearning as well as discuss the encountered challenges and practical adopted solutions for a successful eLearning program implementation".

The conference also features several types of paper presentations that shows eLearning practices among various industries and institutions. Among the selected papers presented was the case study entitled: Case Study: John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University LMS which was authored and co-authored by JBLFMU's very own Instructional Material Designer and the Distance Education Director respectively.

The case study presented, showcased how the JBLFMU developed its implementation of eLearning practices and how it affects the institution's goal to conduct its education services via the digital realm and its aim in extending graduate maritime studies throughout the country and the whole world.
